Professional Portal Track

The Master of Science is offered as a terminal degree in some programs, including the Professional Portal Track. Students admitted for this degree must meet all qualifications for admission to a Graduate Program. Residency requirements and time limitations are the same as for any Master of Science program. The degree requires the completion of 45 quarter hours of graduate level credit and the maintenance of a B average.

The Professional Portal Track is a two-year, non-thesis course of study that leads to the Master of Science. The course of study offers a terminal degree in the sciences suitable as preparation for teaching at the Junior College level, as advanced training for governmental and industry positions, and will enhance academic competitiveness for admission into study at the University of Mississippi Schools of Medicine (M.D. track), Dentistry (D.M.D. track), and Graduate Study in the Health Sciences (Ph.D. track).

The program will encompass participation in a summer program which offers intensive preparation for the standardized graduate, medical or dental admissions test (GRE/MCAT/DAT), a two-year program of rigorous, but individually-oriented instruction in graduate level science course offerings and academic skills building activities.

Applicants must be recognized as from a rural background or be considered disadvantaged due to economic or environmental background, have taken the MCAT/DAT within the last four years, and have taken the Graduate Record Examination (GRE). Applicants must be recommended for admission by the Admissions Officer(s) from each school (Medicine, Dentistry, Graduate). The program is limited to 15 students in each class.
